This is the 9th of 31 blog posts that I am going to write in 31 days.
There are couple of quotes that come to mind when I think about my favorite quotes. The first one is a quote that I used a portion of as a part of my signature in my email when I worked at Best Buy. I used,”Think for yourself, question authority.” from the full quote below. To this day I am not sure how my bosses felt about it but I did have another supervisor tell me from another store that he thought it was hilarious.
Think for yourself, question authority. Throughout human history, our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness;
chaotic, confused, vulnerability, to inform yourself. – Timothy Leary
Another one of my favorite quotes is the one that I have been using on occasion in my signature on this site when I write articles. I didn’t find it until last year when my wife and I were awaiting the arrival of our son. Even before our son was born I knew the impact that he would have on my life. I envisioned me telling him stories that fosters his imagination and hopefully lead to glorious adventures growing up. I just connected with this quote after the first time I read it.
“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singer of songs.” – Pam Brown
The last of my favorite quotes is one that I remember my father telling me after he and his friends were hit a big ditch in the middle of an open while in a pick-up truck. He told the story of how it happened and then followed it up with the following quote that I still use to this day. (Beware it is a bit crude)
I was so scared you couldn’t have pulled a toothpick out of my ass with a team of horses!
I am not sure where he first heard it or he made it up on the fly we have all experienced those moments in life where you have little to no control of things and have had similar emotions. I know I have and am lucky to have this little gem of a quote to use when they do!
